GAIST-Banner Fitters Training

EN1591-4 Fitters training

Bolted connections in refineries, power stations and chemical plants have to be leak-tight for a correct operation and an as less as possible product-loss. Visible and invisible leakages often conduct to dangerous situations and in succession to product-loss, environmental hazard, production shutdown, media exposure and unfortunately sometimes to personal injury. Fugitive emissions decrease the efficiency of the plant and result in overspends in long-term and unnecessary pollution of the environment and neighbourhood. It is virtually impossible to avoid emissions completely, but they can be reduced when using state of the art design and appropriate installation of flange joints. After the introduction of standards for the determination of gasket characteristics and the calculation of flange connections, the EN 1591-4 has now emphasizes the almost most important part: the assembly.

What we offer

We teach you in how to transfer the calculated torque as a force to the flange joint, which enables you to produce a permanently sealed connection. In the training course, you learn about issues such as:

  • Which difference makes the use of the correct tool?
  • Why is the use of fitting-grease and cleaning of the sealing surface necessary?
  • How can you manage a secure unmounting of a flange connection?

Moreover, many more questions are discussed in the course. Our objective is to increase the bolting quality by applying the knowledge from our training course thus to raise the technical reliability of the plant, avoid unnecessary downtime and increase the safety. Since the introduction of the EN 1591-4 and the beginning of the training activities, many plant operators have noticed an improvement very clearly: flange connections which consistently caused problems in prior turnovers are “suddenly tight” when powering up the plant, fewer connections need to be retightened and the downtimes have been significantly reduced.

Rather the proper use of the learned knowledge does mean an improvement to the fitting of flange connections than the very possession of a certificate does. Knowledge can only be imparted if the content is of high quality and well prepared. The quality of education is our number one priority. Our training concept is based on the demand to reach the maximum learning success among the participant. During the whole training we are switching from theory to practice and vice versa from time to time to intensify the theoretical knowledge with practical experiences.

Target audience

Our offer primary addresses technical skilled personnel (metalworker, industrial mechanic or similar), which conducts maintenance (dissemble, mount, retighten, etc.) in pressure-operated systems and need a proof of qualification for their employment. We recommend attending the training also for the entire personnel, which is involved in planning, maintenance and the operation of a plant. For other trainings like hydraulic tension-tools or responsible engineer, this training according EN 1591-1 is the bases.

Small workgroups

In our training we often switch from theoretical lessons to practice. In the practical part, you work individually or in groups of about two people. After a practical part you can exchange your results of in a discussion with other working groups.

Course lenght

1 day training (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

45 minutes exam per participant on the next day

On the first day, the trainer teach all course participant in theoretical and practical basics. At the end of the day there will be the theoretical exam. On the second day there will be the practical exam. The practical test takes place in a 1:1-situation between the participant and the certified trainer. In order to keep the influence on the operating schedule as small as possible, the participant only need to leave their workplaces for about one hour.
